The Health and Wellness Centre (HAWC) of the Medical Operations Squadron recently held a ‘Bling your Briefs’ day to raise awareness for men’s health. More than 35 Airmen and their families participated in the event at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
The HAWC asked attendees to make creative underwear and wear them on the day. The event highlighted Men’s Health Month and prostate cancer awareness, and included activities such as races.
The winner of the 10-kilometre event was Austin Rivera-Lawson, an Ellsworth civilian employee’s son and Douglas High School student. Rivera-Lawson said he participated because he wanted to raise awareness for men’s health.
Medferiash Gordon, a knowledge operations technician, won the 5-kilometre event. He said that raising awareness for the cause was important because many people do not realise what can happen to their bodies.
Prizes were also given for best-decorated briefs. In the past the HAWC has also held events for women’s health awareness, such as the ‘Bling your Bra’ event.
