Men are increasingly seeking new ways to combat the summer heat by wearing tailored shorts to work, teamed with a shirt and jacket.
Retail stores such as John Lewis have reported that sales of smart shorts were up by over 200% since last year, while they have also featured strongly on the 2013 spring/summer catwalks.
The look is set to evoke a sophisticated elegance, with recent data revealing that the demand for men’s shorts that sit at the top of the thigh rather than knees had increased by 156% in the space of a week.
Tailored shorts are now widely available in a range of stores, while best selling styles are linen and belted cargo shorts in greens, bright blues and reds.
According to Head of Menswear Buying at John Lewis, Nick Keyte, tailored shorts are a cooler yet stylish option for men who are looking for a summer alternative to the traditional trouser.
